Berkeley Inns begins building London estate with second acquisition via AG&G this year
Berkeley Inns, the award-winning, Derbyshire gastropub operator, has begun building its estate in London, after securing a second site in the capital through AG&G. The company, which secured its debut site in the capital at the start of the year - The Rugby Tavern in Bloomsbury, is understood to have fought off strong competition from other London-based multiple pub operators to secure the former Knights Templar, Chancery Lane. It was previously operated by JD Wetherspoons and benefits from a Grade-II listed interior comprising a former Victorian banking hall. The business has been rebranded ‘The Last Judgment’ reflecting its close proximity to the Royal Courts of Justice. It offers extensive cocktails, beers and wine list with a revolving seasonal a-la-carte menu in the restaurant complimented by a tasty bar menu.
Berkeley Inns’ aim “is to revitalise great properties, recapturing the atmosphere of the local pub alongside a high-quality food offer”. Panayiotis Themistocli, of AG&G, acted for Berkeley Inns said: “This was a very rare opportunity to acquire such a landmark pub in prime central London at nil premium".
