AG&G helps Electric Star in south-east London

Acting on behalf of Electric Star Group, leading property advisor AG&G has acquired a Grade II-listed pub in Bellingham, south east London, which is set to undergo a multi-million pound restoration programme.

Electric, the Rob Star-led group, has partnered with Phoenix Community Housing Association to restore the property, which due to reopen in 2019 as The Fellowship and Star.

A £4 million lottery-funded restoration project granted will see the historic Grade II listed building transformed.

It will be the first south east London location for Electric, which currently operates five pubs in Bethnal Green, Leyton, Leytonstone, Hackney Downs and King’s Cross.

Built in the 1920s, the former Fellowship Inn was part of a ‘Homes for Heroes’ development to ease inner city overcrowding following the First World War.

The pub later acted as a training base and home for the heavyweight boxer Henry Cooper ahead of his 1963 fight with Cassius Clay, and its large theatre was graced by bands including Fleetwood Mac and Eric Clapton.

The new Fellowship and Star will include a renovated cinema, live music, theatre and comedy venue, café, music hub and rehearsal space and a complete restoration of the 1920s pub. It will also serve as a community space, which is available for hire.

Rob Star, director of Electric Star Group, said: “The Fellowship has such an amazing history and we are really excited about working with Phoenix to restore this beautiful pub to its former glory and make it an asset that the whole community can enjoy.”

Michael Penfold, director of AG&G, said “We are delighted to have helped Electric Star Group find their next venue. This is the fourth deal we have conducted with Electric Star Group and we look forward to continuing to support them in the future.”

Savills acted for the landlord.
