Marriage made in heaven – and Reigate town centre
Become aware of a historic pub/restaurant, introduce it to brewers Fullers, negotiate the simultaneous sale of leasehold and freehold and you have a marriage made in heaven – or at least, in the offices of licensed leisure specialists AG&G.
The leasehold of the Market Hotel, in the historic centre of the Surrey commuter town of Reigate, was sold by family-run operators Market Taverns, while the freehold was acquired from Reigate and Banstead Borough Council. The two interests fetched approximately £2 million in total and Fullers are now enjoying their honeymoon period.
“We suggested to Fullers that a marriage made economic sense and spent quite some time negotiating on their behalf,” says AG&G director James Grimes.
“It’s a handsome, early 19th century building in a great position, with space for 100 covers and a pretty beer garden, so it’s not only flexible but also an excellent investment.”
